"Home is where I want to be Pick me up and turn me round I feel numb - burn with a weak heart so I guess I must be having fun The less we say about it the better Make it up as we go along Feet on the ground Head in the sky It’s ok I know nothing’s wrong . . nothing"
-- Talking Heads "This Must Be The Place"
With Jupiter, Uranus and Chiron fresh in new signs and the Sun 2 degrees into the sign of Cancer, we are reminded again today of the setting our feet down in a new direction. It's as if our bags our already packed -- and though small details have yet to be finalized (like wondering where we're going to replace that toothbrush or GPS device you forgot) -- we still must commence the journey and will ourselves to jump into a new mindset and enjoy the unfolding landscape. Home is truly where the heart is with this cosmic lineup.
With the Sun in the sign of the Moon -- Cancer -- we are challenged to bring consciousness to our inner life. Our collective vitality is somehow connected to our sense of home, though that will vary for each individual. Cancer energy is about caring for ourselves and others in a way that responds to the moment-to-moment emotional fluctuations to which Cancer is so sensitive. Knowing where to find that safe retreat within ourselves when externals feel chaotic -- which often does corresponds to tending to a physical home - is of utmost importance to keep this energy flowing in positive direction. The self-protective tendencies of the Crab is just instinct working to be discriminant about where it's safe to unplug its generosity, emotional and otherwise. Too much self-protection and you may find yourself in the cramped shadow of Cancer where giving becomes a sort of distancing, self-denial or even control.
With Uranus and Jupiter tugging in the direction of adventurous Aries, it looks like we are willing to look past preconceived comfort zones and open ourselves to a new idea of home. Perhaps the characters in the story are changing and where we find nurturing is in the most surprising of places. Pluto, Neptune, Chiron and the North Node are all in retrograde so there is something about reviewing and solidifying choices that have been working for us. Finding comfort amongst the change and nurturing those thoughts, feelings and people that keep us in that sweet spot is Cancer's gift to us right now. With our feet are already on the ground and our head in the sky, we are nudged to return to the primordial power and instincts of the belly. The co-existence of safety and disruption, consistency and change is not a stretch if we just learn where to look.
